A Major Milestone for Project Baseline

Last week, Project Baseline took a major stride towards achieving its goal of mapping human health: the first participants at its Stanford Medicine and Duke University School of Medicine sites in Stanford, California and Kannapolis, North Carolina respectively, completed their first onsite visits.

Project Baseline is a broad initiative to map human health. The first study under Project Baseline is led by Verily, Stanford, Duke, and Google, and plans to enroll approximately 10,000 participants over the next four years. By sharing their personal health and histories, participants can contribute to a deeper understanding of health and disease. With recent advances at the intersection of science and technology, Project Baseline has the opportunity to collect, visualize and understand health data like never before, harnessing technology’s full power to help people live longer, healthier lives.

Stanford hosted its first participant - an Asian male in his 20s - onsite on Tuesday, June 27th. After a busy onsite visit, the Stanford team celebrated its success, recognizing the dedication of the first participant, as well as the organizational effort put forth by the interdisciplinary Stanford team. Duke followed shortly after, hosting its first participant - a Caucasian male in his 60s - on Thursday, June 29th. Saying he wanted to contribute to a more profound understanding of why people get sick, the North Carolina resident began the study assessments with a sense of excitement and dedication. The team across Verily, Stanford, Duke and Google is highly focused on making participating in Project Baseline a seamless and positive experience. These efforts will include a mobile app, a participant advisory counsel, in-person events, and return of results.

And the study is still seeking participants! If you meet the following requirements, then you are eligible to build a Baseline Profile and may be considered for the study:

• At least 18 years old
• A resident of the United States
• Able to speak and read English or Spanish
• Do not have a severe allergy to nickel or metal jewelry
• Do not work on Project Baseline
